Advoca vs Visible

Visible is a pacing tool: a band and paid membership that turn your heart rate into an energy budget. Advoca covers the rest of living with your illness. Type or talk about your day, even a crash day, and Advoca pulls out each symptom's severity, impact on your daily activity, onset, pattern and site, charts the trends and explains them. That record then carries into your appointment, which Advoca records and summarises.[1][2]

THE QUICK VERDICT

An energy number, or the whole story of your illness

Advoca is the better choice if you need more than a pacing score. You describe your day in your own words and Advoca builds a detailed symptom history for you, with severity and impact on daily activity charted separately, and an assistant that explains your trends using trusted medical evidence. That record feeds your appointment preparation, recording and summary. Visible measures heart rate to help you pace; its live pacing needs a dedicated band and membership, sold in the US and UK only.[1][2]

Choose Advoca if…
  • You want symptom tracking that works on a crash day: talk or type, and Advoca charts severity, daily impact, onset, pattern and site for you.
  • You want to understand what limits your days, not just see a score: ask the assistant, which reads your symptom history alongside trusted medical sources.
  • You want one record that carries into the appointment: prepare from it, record up to 90 minutes offline, and keep the summary, transcript and PDF.

FACTOR BY FACTOR

How the choice changes with the job you need done

Tracking that works on a crash day

A tracker only helps if you can keep it going when symptoms are at their worst. Advoca lets you describe the day in the words you have, rather than asking you to complete a form first.

Advoca

Talk or type naturally in your journal. Advoca automatically extracts each symptom's severity, impact on your daily activity, onset, pattern, site, associated symptoms and notes, then shows daily, weekly and monthly charts. Severity and daily impact are charted separately, with a heatmap, stacked line chart and Quick Insights. Free charts cover the last two weeks and the top six symptoms; Premium adds full history, filters and all Quick Insights. Coming soon: medications, test results, energy and mood extracted the same way.

Visible

Visible's free app uses a phone-camera morning measurement for heart rate and HRV to create a Stability Score. Its check-ins are set questions and ratings, covering symptoms, medication and forms of exertion. With membership, wearable readings and daily or monthly check-ins add a longer view.[1][2]

For example: “My knee went again halfway round the walk and I had to sit down. Still aching tonight.” Advoca saves a knee-pain event with its severity, the activity it stopped, when it started and that it lingered, ready to chart against last week. (Illustrative example.)

Advoca's advantage: One sentence captures the detail a clinician asks about, with no forms and no camera check needed first.

Understand your record, not just a score

A score can show that a day changed. A record should show which symptoms changed, how intensely and what they stopped you doing.

Advoca

Advoca charts severity and impact on daily activity separately, daily, weekly and monthly, with a heatmap, stacked line chart and Quick Insights. With Premium, the assistant searches your structured symptom history alongside trusted medical evidence, including 110,000+ indexed medical articles, and shows its sources.

Visible

Visible combines Band 2.0 data with the symptoms, medication, sleep quality and exertion you log. It shows trends and activity impact around pacing. Visible doesn't answer open health questions with cited medical sources.[1][2]

Advoca's advantage: Your Advoca record shows how intense and how limiting each symptom was, side by side, and answers with sources. Treat any pattern as a prompt for your clinician, not a diagnosis.

Bring a structured history in, and leave with a record of the visit

Arriving with a clear, structured symptom history makes you harder to dismiss. Leaving, you need to remember what was decided.

Advoca

Ask Advoca to prepare your notes or write a report and it pulls in your structured symptom history, journals and previous visits. Your planned notes appear when recording starts. Advoca records up to 90 minutes, even offline, and gives you a sectioned summary, transcript and shareable PDF. Unlimited appointment recording is free.

Visible

Visible doesn't record or summarise appointments; it publishes reports for healthcare providers.[2]

For example: Say your energy has fallen after several busy days and you have a specialist review. Advoca can turn your recent entries into topics to raise, record the conversation and keep the agreed next steps. (Illustrative example.)

Advoca's advantage: Advoca turns the history you built into the report you bring, and the appointment itself into part of the record.

Pacing with the full picture

With post-exertional malaise or a tight energy budget, knowing you have overdone it after the day ends may be too late. A reliable history can show what each day cost you.

Advoca

Record energy, activity and symptoms in your own words; daily-impact charts show what each day cost you, and Premium adds data from 500+ wearables.

Visible

Visible's Band 2.0 streams heart-rate data to the app. PacePoints represents energy use, activity tags add context, and phone alerts can tell members when they are exerting or approaching their daily budget.[2]

Advoca's advantage: Advoca puts your energy, symptoms and what each day cost you in one record you can question and take to your clinician, without buying an extra band.

WHAT VISIBLE USERS SAY

What Visible users say, and how Advoca is different

We read recent reviews on the US and UK App Stores and Google Play. Visible's current average rating is 4.8/5 on both App Stores and 4.6/5 on Google Play, checked 20 October 2026.[11][12][13]

The paid setup can be a barrier

The reviews include a free tier described as restricted and concern that the band-and-subscription setup is too costly for people who need it.[12][13]

The free version was frustratingly restricted.
— Constance, 23 August 2026, Google Play[13]

Advoca starts with a free, band-free record. Type or talk about your day and Advoca automatically extracts each symptom's severity, impact on daily activity, onset, pattern, site, associated symptoms and notes. Free charts give you a useful starting history; Premium adds full-history search with trusted medical evidence and sources. Try saying: “The grocery trip wiped me out and I had to rest afterwards.” Advoca is not a live pacing-alert system, so you do not need to buy a band for its core record.

The check-ins can leave gaps in the day

One reviewer wanted symptom entries outside the evening check-in, while another asked for more room to record context in the app.[11][12]

…it’s a shame that symptoms are only tracked in the evening, and not in the morning.
— anzo91, 5 March 2025, App Store (UK)[12]

Advoca is built for the words you have when symptoms happen. Type or talk naturally instead of waiting for a set check-in. Advoca pulls out severity, daily impact, onset, pattern, site, associated symptoms and notes, then charts severity and daily impact separately. Try saying: “This morning my headache was worse, and stairs stopped me in my tracks.”

The wearable can feel awkward or too narrowly integrated

A watch-only option and less reliance on extra straps recur as requests for more flexible hardware and integration.[12][13]

I wish it could be a paid app for my watch instead.
— Kristy Brecht, 13 October 2025, Google Play[13]

Advoca does not make a band the gateway to your record. Core journaling works on your phone, and Premium can connect 500+ wearables to the record. It does not provide live pacing alerts; it brings your own words, symptom patterns and wearable context together for review. Try saying: “My watch showed a busy morning; I felt drained by lunch.”

What Visible users like: Reviewers also praised Visible's pacing feedback, symptom and activity comparisons, and the data they could use when talking with clinicians.[11][12]

These are individual user reviews, may describe older versions, and are not an independent test.

Your questions, answered

Is Advoca better than Visible?

Yes, if you need more than a pacing score. Advoca builds a detailed symptom history from what you type or say, charts severity and daily impact separately, explains trends with sources, and carries the record into appointments it records and summarises. Visible measures heart rate to help you pace; its live pacing needs a band and membership. Neither app replaces professional care. [1][2]

What's the main difference between Advoca and Visible?

Advoca turns your words into a structured symptom history, then helps you understand the record and use it in appointments. Visible centres on energy management through set check-ins and, with membership, continuous band data. [1][2]

Is Visible free?

Advoca is free to use. Visible's free app has no band or membership; its live pacing needs both. US and UK prices are listed above and were checked 19 October 2026. [2][3][7]

Is Advoca free?

Yes. All core features are free, including journaling, automatic symptom tracking with the last two weeks of charts, appointment preparation and unlimited appointment recording, with a generous daily chat allowance. Premium adds full symptom history and filters, all Quick Insights, chat over your symptom history, unlimited chat, the latest research papers and wearables. You don't need to join our research community to use Advoca for free.

How do Advoca and Visible handle my health data?

Advoca stores permanent records in the UK, uses zero-retention arrangements with sensitive processors, encrypts appointment audio on your device, and lets you export and delete your data. Joining the research community is optional: if you join, your data is anonymised first and you can earn rewards. Visible says it stores and processes personal data in the EEA and US, bars AI providers from training on personal data, and offers in-app deletion. [10][6]

Where can I use Visible?

Advoca is available on iOS and Android. Visible's free app is available in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Australia, Norway, Poland, the Netherlands and Mexico. Membership and band shipping are US and UK only. New members need Band 2.0; existing Band 2.0 or Polar Verity Sense owners can buy membership without another band in-app. Device requirements are iOS 15+ or Android 9+. [3][4][5][8][9]
